Movement grows from two four-note cells. Space and propulsion are at play: space in the waves of air which the players plunge into and ride. The four string voices have equal force and tenacity – and there is a feeling of effort throughout. The ‘lunga’ pause at the end is hard-won. The piece is in part inspired by two sparrowhawks flying nearby one evening in Mayo.
